Hearings continued for Tryon ex-officials

Pre-preliminary hearings have been continued for two of three former officials with the City of Tryon facing embezzlement and conspiracy charges as the result of a special investigative audit have made their initial appearances and their prepreliminary hearings have been scheduled.

Salute to Veterans coming in November

The Lincoln County News will publish a Salute to Veterans in the edition of Nov. 10. The quickly approaching deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. Oct. 31. The earlier you submit them, the better. The salute will include photos and each veteran’s name, rank and years of service.

Meeker farm heritage

Meeker schools had a farming heritage day last week with displays and exhibits on old-time hay baling, rope making, churning butter and more. Meeker Elementary brought students to the displays, where they were able to ask questions, meet Cheryl the Jersey cow and pet farm animals.

Ronald Dean Richardson

Ronald Dean Richardson, life-long resident of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the age of 78. Ronald was born on Sunday, December 12, 1943, in Chandler, to Bill and Dorthy (Anderson) Richardson.

Charles Shelton Porter

Charles Shelton Porter was born May 3, 1957 in Savannah, Georgia. He passed away October 4, 2022 at the age of 65. Charles moved around throughout his life living in Pennsylvania, Jew Jersey, Ohio, Michigan where he lived much of his young life and where he graduated from high school.

Lawrence Vernon Hopkins

Lawrence Vernon Hopkins was born August 4, 1943 in Pitcher, Oklahoma to Luther Vivian Hopkins and Alma (Morton) Chatum. He passed away October 6, 2022 in Tulsa at the age of 79.

Gary Lynn Sparks

Gary Lynn Sparks was born on September 23, 1962, in Bristow, OK and died on October 9, 2022, in Stroud, Ok at the age of 60. Gary was the son of Joyce (McDaniel) and Carl R. Sparks. He had been a resident of Stroud for 30 years. He attended Stroud High School graduating in 1981.

Stroud man facing additional charges

A Stroud man, who was handed two deferred terms on felonies in May of this year, faces a new felony count and a misdemeanor following his arrest by police. Steven Eugene Laffoon, 63, was charged in Lincoln County District on Sep.

October Lions of the Month

Chandler High School recently announced that the October Lions of the Month are Trever Spruill and Laryssa Nunn. Trever is the son of Kevin and Celeste Spruill. As a senior at Chandler High School Spruill maintains an unweighted GPA of 3.89. He has also taken four years of Advanced English classes.
