Mayor Aaron Head made a proclamation for the former Mayor Jerry Smith, dated for February 21, 2020, dedicating February 21st Jerry Smith Day.

Former Mayor, Jerry Smith was mayor for the Town of Meeker Town Board for 5 ½ Years. Jerry Smith was a trustee for the Town of Meeker for 10 years. Jerry served as a volunteer Firefighter for the Town of Meeker for over 20 years. Former Mayor Jerry Smith dedicated significant time and effort for the betterment of the Town of Meeker.

The Town of Meeker flags will be flown at half-mast Friday until Monday.

I can remember Jerry always on his way to do a tire repair or in one of the local restaurants. He was always swarmed by a group of the local guys smiling, laughing, and telling stories. It seemed to me that he also enjoyed all of his animals a lot.

The Town of Meeker sends its condolences to the family and friends of former Meeker Town Clerk Donna Watkins for the loss of her husband James “Taco” Watkins. All these folks have had a huge impact on our town of Meeker and will surely be missed big time.

The Town of Meeker trustees held their monthly meeting February 21st at 6:30pm. They approved accepting the insurance settlement for the damage received in the town administrative office for $1928.52. We replaced ceiling sheetrock, bed and tape, paint and 2 new bookshelves, as well as new flooring, all done for less than half of the check April 6th at 6:30p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Trustees went into an executive Session to:

A. Discuss, Consider, Take Possible Action to convene into Executive Session on advice of the City Attorney to receive confidential information from the town’s attorney concerning a pending employment complaint filed by the City Clerk as authorized by Title 25 O.S. Section 307 B (4) of Oklahoma Statues because disclosure would seriously impair the ability of the public body to process the claim or conduct a pending investigation, litigation, or proceeding in the public interest. If a Board Member requests Executive Session, a motion will be made and a vote taken.

The Trustees came back out of Executive Session and took no action. The City Clerk will still have a period of time of 2 years for most causes of action.

After the Trustees came out of Executive Session, the Town’s Attorney also discussed what the Trustees duties were. Which are:

Regarding the City Street repairs, there was 15 tons of Cold Asphalt Patch placed in town potholes. Another 15 ton of Cold Asphalt Patch has been ordered for continuation of filling pot holes. The town streets could sure use an asphalt overlayment on all the streets. We are trying to figure out a way to get that done. Until that happens drive safe and slow down.

We are seeing the tax revenues go up a little bit each month.

The Meeker Growth and Development has been working several years promoting the Glenncrest Park with Festivals and other events. Mayor Aaron Head presented the Town Administrator , Dickie Walton, with a $6000 check, that will be deposited in a special Interest bearing account for the park. The park will be renovated this year. received.

The Trustees also approved the $12,000 donation from Patriot Environmental for new computers and iPads for the Police cars.

The Town Trustee’s also accepted the $60,000 donation from the Gamill’s for the Glenncrest Park playground equipment. Another presentation will be made at the park with all the people who have been involved with this project.

The Town also received not ten, but fifteen new L.E.D. lights on Main Street Friday. More L.E.D. lights will be added as the old lights burn out. As you drive through town at night by City Hall, enjoy the new lighting. These L.E.D. lights produce more than double the lumens of brightness at a lot less cost.
