Legislatives updates

The legislative session got off to a good start this year when Gov. Kevin Stitt delivered his fourth annual State of the State address. I and other House leaders look forward to working with him on some shared priorities. One of those is the continued push back against federal overreach.

We’ve kicked off

We’ve kicked off another legislative session, and even more so this year, we’ve hit the ground running. Our Senate committees have already started meeting and vetting legislation, and we aren’t looking to slow down anytime soon.

Hearing set in kidnapping case

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a man charged with kidnapping for extortion and robbery with a weapon. A $100,000 bench warrant had been issued on Jan. 7 this year for the arrest of Xiaodong Zhang, 43, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Starvation case: Charges dropped against brother

A felony charge filed 3½ years ago has been dropped against a man identified as the brother of a youth who was nearly starved to death. Tyler Joe Adkins, who was then 24 and is now 28, was charged July 23, 2018, with a single count of child neglect. He was accused of between Jan.

No jail time in cockfighting case

A Harrah man who was facing more than 80 felony charges for operating an illegal cockfighting operation has pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and will serve no jail time.

Lincoln County Commissioners

Lincoln County commissioners this week voted to set a hearing on vacating right-of-way located at 3340 Road between the West Turnpike entrance and Route 66 in Wellston. They agreed to set the hearing for the commissioners meeting on March 21.

Bench warrant in car chase

A $15,000 bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a driver who reportedly eluded police during a high speed pursuit following a traffic stop. Nicholas James Worden, 42, of Stroud, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Jan.

Four counts for Stroud man

A Stroud man is facing four counts, three of them drug-related, following his arrest by Stroud police. Formal charges were filed Jan. 14 in Lincoln County District Court against Bobby Don Stewart.
