Marietta Jewel Scruggs Spencer of Meeker was born to Manuel and Jewel Hanley Scruggs on September 3, 1941, in Lindsay, Okla. She died Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the age of 78 years. Spencer, a 1959 graduate of Lindsay High School, worked for REC in Lindsay and Western Electric in Oklahoma City.

Johnny Darrell Byford

Johnny Darrell Byford was born to Vernon and Bonnie (Miller) Byford on November 25, 1941, in Davenport. He died Wednesday, September 2, 2020, in Chandler at the age of 78 years. Johnny was raised by his grandparents, Levi and Smantha (Clarkson) Miller and graduated from Chandler School in 1959.

Loretta Iona Stricklin

Loretta Iona Stricklin was born August 7, 1946, in Wellston. She died September 3, 2020, at the age of 74 years. Stricklin, a 1964 graduate of Wellston High School, worked as a secretary and accountant for Globe Life Insurance Company in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Assembly of God Church.

W. Leon Bolinger

W. Leon Bolinger, 84, of Stroud, Okla., and formerly of the Labette County area, passed away at 5:56 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at his home. Wallace Leon Bolinger was born on October 18, 1935, to William Leonard and Carrie (Lamb) Bolinger in rural Porterville, Kan.

Sue Ann Martin

Sue Ann (Wright) Martin was born April 23, 1935, in Chandler. She died Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the age of 85 years. Martin, the daughter of Charlie and Mary Olive (Key) Wright, married Howard Martin in 1955.

Miller elected District 2 commissioner

Marlon Miller is the newly elected District Two Commissioner in Lincoln County. Miller received 68 percent of the vote in the Republican runoff last Tuesday, unseating incumbet Troy Evans. Miller had 694 votes to 325 for Evans.
