With the weather prognosticators predicting a fairly powerful storm this week for Oklahoma and much of the nation, I figured it might be wise to prepare a little.Around 8 on Monday morning one of the apps on my cell phone alerted me about a winter storm watch for our area beginning around 9 a.m.

Winter Storm

Lincoln County appears to have escaped any major power outages or injuries from the first winter storm it encountered in 2026.The storm rolled through over the weekend, brining as a much as a reported 11 inches of snow and windchills well below zero.

Oliver “Johnny” Garland

Oliver William Garland, known as Johnny to his family and friends, passed away quietly on December 30, 2025, at the age of 91.He was the son of Vester R. Garland and Callie Garland Neese.

Robert Henry Gordon III

RobertHenryGordon III, age 33, of Stroud, Oklahoma,passedaway on January 15, 2026. He was born on February 2, 1992, to Robert Henry Gordon Jr and Tawanna Taylor Gordon.Rob was preceded in death by his grandfather, his grandmother and his mother-in-law.

Town Talk

Congratulations to the Rock Café on being chosen by the Route 66 Centennial Commission to be featured on one of the Centennial billboards on Turner Turnpike. The billboard reads “100 Years of Neon” and the one located by Stroud features the Rock’s neon sign and it lights up.

Lions of the month announced

James Kerr, Ava White and Rylee Capps were selected as Lions of the Month for January by the Chandler Chapter of the Lions Club.James Kerr is the son of Richard and Esther Kerr. He has taken four years of Advanced English and has a GPA of 3.5.

A competitive spirit

Stroud senior Jackson Campbell has always had a competitive nature.He started playing sports when he was five or six -- ever since his father Jim Campbell used to coach in Chandler.
