As I tip-toe into the new year, I have a list of things I’d like to see in the next 12 months. Here’s my list. Maybe you have one of your own. 1. A change of political heart throughout the country. If you are my age, you lived through and remember several dark periods of American history.

New Year’s Resolutions, 2024

While we have just started a new year, it’s taken me a little longer to jot down the resolutions for the coming 12 months. I’m hoping 2024 will be a good year, maybe a little better than 2023 and that I and our family will go through it without some of the challenges we faced the past 12 months.

Things around town slow down a bit as we get closer to Christmas, but things seem much busier in our personal lives as Christmas nears. I always wonder if I’m going to get everything done in time for our family celebrations.

We went for a lowstress Christmas this year. Instead of someone spending a couple of days in the kitchen to cook a turkey or a ham and everything that goes with them, I volunteered to make a traditional pot of Christmas chili. “What is Christmas chili?” you ask.

We just finished up Christmas Day 2023 and it’s been one of the best holidays we’ve experienced in a long time I believe. Of course as my pastor reminded me during one of his sermons a few weeks back as Advent was beginning, the 12 days of Christmas don’t conclude until the first Sunday in January.

I lost a good friend early Monday morning, someone I had grown to think a lot of and a person I had learned to respect. John reportedly died in his sleep. I started getting calls a little after 7 that morning from friends wanting to know if he had passed away.

We were having trouble coming up with something Grandson Bennett would eat for breakfast. He doesn’t like scrambled eggs. Or cereal that isn’t highly sugared. Or biscuits. Or pancakes. He is living with us these days, so it was becoming a problem finding menu choices that he would eat.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to Wreaths Across Stroud. It was a wonderful tribute to our deceased veterans. The American Legion Auxiliary could not have undertaken this project without the help of each of you.
