Arthur “J.R.” Owens III , 74, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. J.R. was born on December 29, 1948, in Stroud, Oklahoma, the son of Arthur “Junior” and Glenda Marie Owens.

A Shawnee man facing more than 40 felony charges of sex-related crimes with minors who has pleaded not guilty has been set for the felony pre-trial docket. Danny Ray Weeks, Jr., 52, was originally charged in Pottawatomie County District Court on Dec. 15, 2022 with 34 felony counts.

Recently my wife Pat and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary. We were married July 1, 1978 in the chapel at St. Gregory’s. It was a Saturday morning at 10:30. This year July 1 fell on a Saturday also.

Our community enjoyed another terrific fireworks show and July 4th celebration in Foster Park last week. Thanks to all who made this possible. I read many comments that stated Stroud’s fireworks were one of the best around. We can add that to our list of reasons we are Stroud Proud.

Meeker school hires several

Meeker Board of Education members this week voted to hire several new personnel for the 2023-2024 school year and also approved a contract with an architectural firm. They also approved the annual continuing resolutions for 2023-2024.
