Paul George Speer

Paul George Speer was born May 30, 1940, in Duncan, Okla., and died Thursday, March 24, 2022, in Wellston. He was 81 years old. Speer, the son of Harold and Lenna (Cowan) Speer, married Patricia Mincks in 1957. He worked as a roughneck in the oilfield and later became a certified welder.

Robert “Bob” Patrick Hoban was born to William and Evelyn (Beckius) Hoban on June 28, 1940, in Heartwell, Neb. He died Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Wellston. He was 81 years old. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler.

Music for the Mother Road

Nolan Stolz set out from his home in Spartanburg, S.C., last July to tour Route 66. Nine months and 20,000 miles later, he was in Stroud last week, making one of his stops to harvest inspiration for a musical suite he plans to write about The Mother Road for its 100th anniversary.

McLoud water rate increase

The McLoud City Council, meeting as the Public Works Authority, has approved an increase in utility rates. City Manager Buck Day explained the rate increase, “Is 50 cents per 1,000 gallons on water and on sewer.

Stroud police recently received a ballistic shield from the Stand First Foundation. Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton started the foundation and previously has donated a shield to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.

Suspended sentences assault on officer

A Chelsea woman has received two suspended sentences as the result of a plea bargain on felony charges filed following a high speed pursuit that injured a Lincoln County deputy sheriff. Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court Jan. 5 this year against Lakrisha Kaylynn Dutton, 36.
