McLoud: Wahpepah Trails update

Nearly four years ago with the help of two grants, the City of McLoud embarked on a project to extend the Wahpepah Walking Trails and make improvements to the park. Fast forward to May of 2020, and the area has taken on a completely new look.

Four Prague students chosen for Boys State

Four students from Prague High School were chosen to serve as delegates to Oklahoma Boys State before the session was canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to officials, it is only the second time in the program’s 81-year history that Boys State had to cancel.

Craft tables!

Years ago, newspapers used tables, like the one shown above, to create their pages. These days we do it all by computer, so we at the Lincoln County News have four surplus tables and we’re absolutely positive that at least one of them would be a perfect fit in your hobby room or workshop.

Pond scum problems

Moss is already showing up in area farm ponds and some knowledgable with it believe the cause is runoff from early spring rains. Gary Barnett, an area resident, says he’s noticed a considerable amount of moss already in local ponds, among them his own.

Although prom was cancelled and the seniors are missing out on the traditional senior memories, Stroud Schools strives to create a memory for them. A banner of the Stroud seniors was placed outside the Stroud Senior Center to honor the 46 graduating seniors.

Mikayla Brannam is the recipient of the Recruitment Grant given by the Alpha Iota Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. A graduate of Chandler High School, Brannam is attending Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., where she will be a senior in the fall.

Donate blood

The Davenport community and Oklahoma Blood Institute will host a blood drive 12-4 p.m., Thursday, May 7, at Davenport High School, 417 Broadway. According to OBI officials, blood donation is safe and critical to preventing a blood shortage.

Prague High School senior Jaycee Johnson received the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges President’s Scholarship to attend Seminole State College. Each year Presidents of Oklahoma Community Colleges select students from Oklahoma to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Stefani Davis likes to throw big birthday parties and wasn’t about to let the COVID-19 lockdown deprive 6-yearold Kaylani of a birthday celebration. So, Saturday, they celebrated in style at their home west of Prague.

Drive-by parade at North Rock Creek

North Rock Creek’s teachers held a parade in reverse at the elementary school last week. The teachers stood on the sidewalk, holding placards and waving while the students and their families drove by, greeting their teachers from a socially acceptable distance.
